Like many parishes, St Bartholomew Westhoughton has records of baptisms, marriages and burials dating back several centuries. These are of great interest, particularly to local historians and to those researcching family history and it is therefore important that such records are stored in a safe and appropriate location.
All church records of baptisms, marraiges and burials are stored with the Manchester Diocesan Archive at the Local Studies Unit of Manchester's Central Library. If you have any enquiry relating to such records, please contact the Local Studies Unit on 0161 219 2528 for information about access to reccords.
Enquirers might find it helpful to note that the burial ground adjacent to St Bartholomew's Church is Westhoughton Cemetery - a Bolton Council owned cemetery - NOT St Bartholomew's Churchyard. (The origninal St Bartholomew's churchyard, mostly sited on the School Street side of the church, was closed many years ago). Again, the church does not hold records for burials that have taken place in the cemetery. Enquiries regarding burials in this cemetery should be made to Bolton Council.
